Queer Excursions

October 12

After returning to Poznań, Pavel met me and, after a shared lunch in a small park, drove me to Zhora and Denis; Lyosha Fig 18 joined us there as well. I had missed my close friends, and the evening turned out long and dense. We talked a lot about everything that had accumulated during my absence.

October 13

The next day Lyosha came by so we could calmly go through all the work-related and organizational issues that had arisen while I was away. I handed him a signed catalogue by Karol Radziszewski Fig 16. Over the following days I worked a lot, almost without pauses.

October 16

Toward evening we went out for a walk Fig 2–6 together with Danylo and Zhora. We walked through the city and decided to show Danylo the cruising club Pakusa, which he had never visited before. After a tour of the dark rooms there, lying around in one of the rooms Fig 19–20, we talked about how queer art has changed over the past years – not so much formally as in its inner intonation and modes of articulation.

October 17

We went to a housewarming at Zhora and Denis’s place. They had moved some time ago but hadn’t yet thrown a proper party. During the day Zhora and I prepared a card and an announcement with balloons, and by evening Alexey and I arrived with gifts (I gave them my photographic gesture with a sickle, made in Venice). We inflated emerald metallic balloons, electrified them on our hair, and hung them throughout the apartment Fig 13–15/17/24–28. There were many guests, irony, and chaos.

October 19

At last I took Pavel out to a restaurant. We went for the first time to a new Ukrainian seafood place, where we ordered fish soup, second courses that were far too filling, oysters, and opened a bottle of wine. At last, after some time, we celebrated our anniversary, which we hadn’t managed to mark since August. It was already our seventeenth anniversary!

October 21

I went to the Academy of Arts for a lecture by Olaf Brzeski Fig 7–12. He spoke about his sculptural and post-sculptural projects: a lion made of grating and a hallucinogenic toad, inflated baroque porcelain, and volumetric drawings. After the lecture Lyosha and I sat for a while in the bar Psychedelia, which we had recently opened, discussing what we had heard.

October 22

Danylo Heorhiiev and Kamil Mizgala came to the studio Fig 1 Fig 21 – a transgender artist currently in residence at the Castle, preparing her final exhibition. Later Tomek Pawłowski-Jarmołajew stopped by and brought Filip Kijowski Fig 22, another queer artist and curator from Lublin. It turned out (almost shockingly) that none of them had ever been to the Dark Angel Club. I told them about the exhibition we had done there and decided to give them a short tour.

There were almost no visitors, but we settled comfortably in the porn room, drank beer, and talked about queer art against the backdrop of pulsating homonormative masculine pornography Fig 23/29. This symbiosis produced a wild yet remarkably precise dialogue about corporeality, sex work in art, and queer experience.
