Snow for Yozm-Yozm

November 15

I completed a stage of developing the next version of the website, defining its system and the core principle of the archive as a single window. The structure finally assembled into a readable logic. During the day, I returned to the exhibition of Izabella Gustowska Fig 30, this time without the crowds; I closely examined the photographs by Annette Messager Fig 31, which set a tuning-fork rhythm for perception.

November 16

Zhora and I moved through exhibitions and eventually landed at the “student square”, where I ordered two pizzas; the day gradually unfolded into a drift through the city, with a sequence of found objects forming a chain Fig 19–22. Pavel fell silent, the cat became talkative.

November 17–21

I went to the gym more regularly, worked on the website, and in parallel developed a visual identity for a company. A series of tense Zoom meetings with curators and collectors followed; constantly scratching near-agreements and mirage-like possibilities.

November 21

I went to the opening at the studio of Andrey and Liya Dostlev, a solo presentation of video works by Katerina Berlova. After the opening, we stopped by Pavel Mogutsky’s birthday Fig 24/26. I have not been drinking for a month, and in that alcohol-saturated environment I clearly felt a “non-encounter”, so I left soon after, giving him a photograph from the series Fear of Castration, 2016 Fig 29, depicting my hand through a hole made in the darkroom. For Pavel, curious and open as he is, this is a largely symbolic object.

November 22

Our dear close friend Oleg Ivchenko, also known as Yozm-Yozm Fig 1, arrived from Spain. In 2010, I curated one of my early projects in Minsk at Ў Gallery, presenting his solo exhibition of architectural photography. Pavel, Alexey, and I met him at the airport, did some shopping, and brought him home for lunch. In the evening, we went out to show him the city and the Lokum space in the castle Fig 25.

And then the snowfall began! For Oleg, who lives in Barcelona, it felt like a gift for his visit, a return of a nearly lost condition. As happens year after year, the first snow became an event for many city dwellers, transforming the city and social media within minutes. The snow settled slowly on plane tree leaves and conifers, covering all surfaces with a thin layer, and under the streetlights everything gained a soft backlit glow, like the thin line of atmosphere seen in photographs of the Earth from space. Pavel’s glasses kept fogging up Fig 28, and we smiled and kept photographing everything around us Fig 2–18.

At Lokum, Zhora joined us. Then, as if under a shared spell, we moved on, walking through the snow-covered city until we reached the Belarusian bar My pod sceną Fig 27, where the evening shifted into dancing. Reluctant to let go of that state, we continued walking through the cold, lace-like night shaped by snow, until we reached the car with its reassuring heated seats Fig 9.

Yozm-Yozm
