Chronicle

November 12–15

Returning from Berlin, we discovered that during our absence a feline war for attention had erupted in the house. The aftermath was so extensive that after an expensive professional cleaning we still had to invest in a serious washing vacuum cleaner. Sometimes comfort has to be fought for as stubbornly as meaning. With Alexey, we began preparing for upcoming exhibitions.

November 16

Glowed at Dark Angels. On days like this, the city’s skin feels stretched over someone’s lustful face.

November 17

Froze our feet off with Pavel Fig 17, wandering through the city. In the place of the monument, a parking lot for other people’s cars had grown.

November 18

For the first time since my student years, I cut my hair into a short buzz cut Fig 3–6. My head started hearing drafts faster than thoughts.

November 19

Helped elderly homeowners with renovations. Turns out, old walls barely tolerate change.

November 21

Concert of Petlya Pristrastiya.

    Warpedness
  •     The façade peels
  •     A crack creeps along
  •     Cosmetic repair
  •     Changes nothing
  •     In the distortion of the surface
  •     A simulation of paradise 1

Afterwards, the vocalist, Ilya Cherepko-Samokhvalov, and I exchanged a few words at the club’s exit, at that moment a generous snowfall began Fig 10/13. People were dispersing, and I wandered through the rare snow-covered city before stopping to warm up at HAH.

November 22

Opening of the Arsenal Gallery collection exhibition at the Poznań Arsenal, curated by Monika Szewczyk. Afterwards, Pavel and I were invited to a memorable dinner at Veranda.

November 23

Photoshoot of Alexey and me at the KUT space Fig 11. The camera always knows who doesn’t belong.

November 24

Visit to Zhora and Denis, seeing their new apartment near Posnania shopping center, with the neon of commerce glowing in the windows.

November 25

Wedding anniversary of Nikita and Nastya at bar My, after which we drifted through the city for a long time.

November 26

Opening of our exhibition Dzirka Slavy at Gray Mandorla Studio.

  • At Dzirka Slavy, held in their own studio, the artists presented works united by a queer perspective. The exhibition featured not only their individual works but also joint projects, including the sketch series Title Pages, the graphic cycle Queer Tracing Papers Fig 1, and the object series Shelter of Love Fig 7.

  • Most of these works had previously been shown to the public only once, separately, at exhibitions in Warsaw and in the cruising club Dark Angels. This exhibition not only offered access to their creative process but also brought together the artistic statements of recent years into a single whole.

  • * The title Dzirka Slavy is a Latin transliteration from the Belarusian term Glory Hole, referring to queer themes and linking the exhibition’s name with that of their studio, Gray Mandorla.

We did not hold an official opening – just invited a few friends and announced that the doors would remain open to everyone for the next few months. In the end, the exhibition lasted almost four months and attracted an unexpectedly large audience.

November 27

Mike Urbaniak Fig 18, queer blogger, author of a book about queer experience in Poznań, came to the studio, brought by Mikita Ilinchik Fig 16. Marek was impressed and even offered us potential help.

November 28

Participation in the exhibition at the KUT space, where Alexey and I showed the Title Pages series. Afterwards was a drunken party at PRL bar Fig 8/12 with colleagues and professors. Those beloved drunken conversations about culture, always more precise than meeting minutes.

Gray Mandorla Studio.

Shelter of Love.

Dark Angels.
