Again!
First the squats were expelled and the once-occupied houses sterilized into yoga studios and coffee shops. Then the parks were fenced off so that migrants and protesters could not pitch tents. Even the boundless Tempelhof is now encircled with metal.
At the Reichstag a “temporary” control center appeared, a plastic box at the entrance through which all visitors must now pass. Once you could climb up to the dome almost freely from the street. Now it is guards, inspections, metal, passports. The transparent dome of democracy is guarded more and more tightly in the name of preventing terrorist threats.
All Jewish museums, cultural, and religious centers are surrounded by guards and fences. The main scourge of Berlin has become antisemitism once again.
Along the riverbanks there is no way through. New buildings and fences block access and the promenade exists only as a dream. Brand new hipster housing complexes fence off lawns, seizing public ground. Walls also rise around private corporations, refugee camps, and service areas because Ordnung muss sein.
Squares in both East and West Berlin are now encircled with barriers Fig 3 so that trucks no longer plow into crowds.
Berlin looks more and more like a city styled for capital and bobo comfort. Even the first of May 2025 passed without burning of expensive cars. Peaceful as IKEA.
Against this backdrop of rightward shifts mutations appear. Now even the Greens have taken up the task, erecting temporary fences in parks so that new plantings are not trampled. This brings conflict between eco and queer communities, because environmentalists have targeted the most well-known cruising zones.
In Tiergarten the police harass cruising areas with flashing lights, even though sex here is legal. In Hasenheide paths have been blocked with wooden barricades Fig 11/14. In Friedrichshain the spaces were erased completely: thick bushes cut down, the territory enclosed with a locked fence Fig 5.
Yet queers cut through locks Fig 1/15, set barricades on fire Fig 9, and fight back against the police. Daytime cruising may be dead without the cover of bushes, but at night life pushes back through the mesh fence, flowers of the cruising utopia.
Freedom cannot be cut off by perimeter. It cannot be trampled in the name of grass care. Berlin is a city of desire and its realization, a city of total freedom.
Environmentalists can plant whatever they like anywhere, but not at the expense of other communities. Capitalists, landlords, managers, yuppies, wealthy Scandinavians will have to learn that public space in Berlin must remain permeable for everyone. Otherwise the fences will be destroyed again.
Let us make Berlin dangerous for capitalism once more!

Make Berlin Dangerous for Capitalism Again!
Берлин – один из самых быстроменяющихся городов Европы, лакмусовая бумажка перемен, идеологический датчик. Город, избавившийся от стены и создавший когда-то редкое безбарьерное пространство тотальной свободы, за последние десятилетия научился возводить новые стены.
Сначала изгоняли сквоты, стерилизовали бывшие занятые дома под йога-студии и кофейни. Потом стали огораживать парки, чтобы мигрант:ки и протестант:ки не ставили палатки. Даже безграничный Тэмпельхоф теперь в кольце металла!
У Рейхстага появился «временный» контрольный центр – пластиковая коробка у входа, через которую теперь проходят все посетител:ьницы. Раньше на купол можно было подняться с улицы почти без препон. Теперь: охрана, досмотр, металл, паспорта. Прозрачный купол демократии охраняется всё плотнее во избежание угроз теракта.
У всех еврейских музеев, культурных и религиозных центров – охрана и ограждения. Главный бич Берлина – снова антисемитизм.
По берегам реки нельзя пройти: новые постройки и заборы, о набережной можно только мечтать. Новёхенькие хипстерские жилые комплексы обносят газоны, захватывая общественное. Стены в городе появляются также вокруг частных корпораций, лагерей бежен:ок и служебных пространств (потому как Ordnung muss sein).
Площади, что в восточном, что в западном Берлине теперь тоже окольцовались барьерами, чтобы фуры больше не давили толпы.
Берлин всё больше похож на город, стилизованный под капитал и бобо-комфорт. Даже первое мая 2025 прошло без поджогов дорогущих машин. Мирный, как IKEA.
На фоне индекаторов правого перехода возникают мутации: например, теперь за дело взялись и «зелёные», сооружая временные заборы в парках, чтобы новые посадки не затаптывались. И тут возникает конфликт между эко- и квир-комьюнити. Потому что экологи:ни зачем-то взялись и за наиболее известные круизинг-зоны.
В Тиергартене полиция кошмарит круизинг-зоны мигалками, хоть секс тут по закону; в Хазенхайде тропинки перегорадили деревянными плотами; а во Фридрихсхайне – всё снесли подчистую: густые кусты вырубили, территорию окружили забором с замками.
Но квиры срезают замки, поджигают плоты, дают отпор полиции. И пускай дневной крузинг в отсутсвии кустов мёртв, но ночью сквозь сетку снова пробивается жизнь – цветы круизинг-утопии.
Свободу нельзя отрезать по периметру. Нельзя затоптать под видом ухода за травой. Берлин – это город желания и его реализации. Город тотальной свободы.
Экологи:ни могут сажать своё где угодно, но не в ущерб другим сообществам. Капиталист:ки, частни:цы, управлен:ки, яппи, богатые скандинав:ки привыкайте: публичное пространство в Берлине должно оставаться проницаемым для каждо:й. В противном случае заборы снова будут разрушены.
Сделаем Берлин опасным для капитализма снова!
