Perspective
Work on the reliquaries.
March 2
After a pancake-filled Maslenitsa, Taisa came to the studio to sketch models. Then another bodily matter began: I started repairing the kitchen of our elderly landlords, Pani Aleksandra and Pan Antoni. In the pauses between scraping walls, I translated for them an old wedding document of their ancestors from the Russian Empire in 1909 Fig 15. This became the starting point for a long conversation with a dizzying historical perspective: from crinolines and Austro-Hungarian tablecloths to the story of the construction of our house, which Aleksandra’s grandfather began to build in 1989, the year Poland emerged from the shadow. Before that, on Mostowa Street where we live, a stream once flowed (now turned into a small square) and stood a single fisherman’s house, now hidden in the shadow of new buildings in the courtyard of the institute opposite. When the first automobiles appeared on the street, people were often run over because no one understood that cars had their own trajectories and that rules were a language of survival.
In the past, residents spoke from balconies, exchanged news straight across the windows of the courtyard well, looked each other in the eyes every day. Now, Aleksandra complained, there are only screens, televisions, smartphones. And we literally do not know the faces of all our neighbors.
The historical excursus from our hosts spanned a couple of hours: the Russian Empire, the Second Polish Republic, the war, the Soviet bloc, the transition, Solidarity, GHK – and now they are talking to you about ChatGPT and generative linguistics. As if this entire sine wave were just one single room where only the wallpaper changes.
March 8
After these conversations and walks through Poznań, where the first signs of spring Fig 1 began to break through, we could not resist and on March 8 organized a picnic Fig 2–9. But the sun vanished quickly, and the icy contrast arrived. We crumpled up the blankets and escaped back to the studio Fig 10.
And then again, a jolt, work: websites, the film script.
March 14
Once more a large company gathered in our Gray Mandorla Studio Fig 11 to discuss upcoming premieres, exhibitions, and openings on the horizon.
