This is a front

Queerness is not a flag, not a carnival, not a display.
Not a mask, not a show, not a lifestyle. Not a club, not a hashtag, not a convenient context.
And yet, at times, it is disturbingly close to all of these.

It is skin that has been torn off and has grown back again, thinner now, because it has become more sensitive to the sensors of approaching danger.

It is the silence in a school bathroom, where you wait for the footsteps to fade.
And a space of freedom, where for the first time no one asks who you really are, they simply embrace you and pull the chairs closer. It is when things are messy and rough.
It is the family you chose yourself.

It is a utopia that trembles, drifts, stains the sheets, yet holds on to an outstretched hand until morning.
It is both freedom and its side effect.
Where even breathing is a political act, and the body itself becomes evidence of survival.

It is a front.
I state a demand: “I want to get married in Poland” – and every step on the cobblestones sounds like a challenge.
I know that by doing this I am breaking the architecture of representations and language.

And what has endured in the presence of the body will not disappear.

On the back of the sign was a demand: to introduce at least civil partnerships in Poland
