the Circle
Together with Zhora we began to build our new website with a map of Poznań, an attempt to find the language of the city and to visualize its boundaries through the experience of bodily movement, associations, notes, and drifting. In the evening Andriy Dostliev invited us to his studio Fig 13–15/16. Liya was just leaving, while Aleksei stayed, and together we spoke about Roger Ballen and his South African works, about the studio on Venetian Street where they are planning to open a gallery. The space still preserved a photo mural with an image of Venice, and some traces on the walls seemed to suggest that earlier it had been a hair salon or photo studio.
July 26
With Pasha we ended up at the bar My pod sceną. A DJ was playing outside, and an international crowd had gathered. Our group met artists from Kenya who had opened a studio in Wilda, as well as migrants from Syria, Azerbaijan, and other countries. The evening was remembered by a particular sense of expanding the circle into a stable structure where exchange, recognition, and mutual attraction of difference took place.
July 28
I finally met with Lech Konczak Fig 6. He is already director of the Polish Institute in Serbia, and at the moment he was in Poznań visiting his parents and for the first time came to our studio. The space and the exhibition made a strong impression on him. Afterwards we went to Dragon, where we spoke at length about his house under construction near Owińska, about the possibilities of joint residencies, and about the infrastructure of future collaborations. I accompanied him to the Garbary station and was struck by the suburban train that resembled the Berlin metro, passing almost under our noses and carrying you far out of the city in just twenty minutes.
July 29
The next day Zhora and I went to the Przepadek district Fig 7/11 to arrange a photo session and to explore the space for our journal, to measure the district with the body. Then I showed Zhora Rozbrat Fig 1–5, the anarchist center and squat near the railway. For him it became a real revelation, a political territory breathing resistance.
July 30
We helped Stefan Filzner transport part of his belongings to Warsaw. He and Joanna had sold their apartment and were moving gradually. Their plan was to divide the relocation into parts by asking different friends to help, not simply logistics but a way of sustaining ties, of turning the move into a series of encounters. This is how community functions, where transportation becomes dialogue and cargo becomes a pretext for the sparkle of eyes from shared laughter.
That same evening we returned to Poznań, and in our studio an international gathering took place. Our new Kenyan friends Fig 9
We are happy that our community is growing outward through new international connections and projects, creating a palpable density of trust. Theories of urban migration suggest that integration works only where horizontal mutual recognition takes place, where a neighbor is not simply tolerated but becomes part of a shared story. And it seems that now we will be able to build this story here with voices from many other countries.

25 июля
С Жорой начали собирать наш новый сайт с картой Познани – попытку нащупать язык города и визуализировать его границы через опыт телесного перемещения, ассоциации, заметки и дрейфа. А к вечеру нас позвал в студию Андрей Достлев. Лия уже выходила, тогда как Алексей остался, и вместе мы обсуждали Роджера Баллена и его южноафриканские работы, студию на Венецианской улице, где они планируют открыть галерею. В помещении сохранилось фотопанно с изображением Венеции, а некоторые следы на стенах, похоже, указывают на то, что здесь раньше была парикмахерская или фотостудия.
26 июля
С Пашей оказались в баре My pod sceną. Диджейка играла на улице, и здесь собиралась интернациональная тусовка. Наша компания тогда познакомилась с художниками из Кении, которые открыли студию на Вильде, а также с мигрантами и мигрантками из Сирии, Азербайджана и других стран. Вечер запомнился особым чувством расширения круга – как устойчивой структуры, где происходит обмен, узнавание и взаимное притяжение разного.
28 июля
Наконец встретился с Лехом Кончаком. Он уже директор Польского института в Сербии, а сейчас был в Познани у родителей и впервые зашёл в нашу студию. Пространство и выставка произвели на него сильное впечатление. Мы потом пошли в Dragon, где долго обсуждали его строящийся дом недалеко от Овиньска, возможности совместных резиденций и инфраструктуру будущих коллабораций. Я проводил его до станции Гарбара и был поражён электричке, напоминающей берлинское метро, которая проходит буквально под носом и за 20 минут уносит далеко за город.
29 июля
На следующий день мы с Жорой поехали в район Пшепадек устроить фотосессию и исследовать пространство для журнала. Измерить район телом. Потом я показал Жоре Rozbrat – анархический центр и сквот возле железной дороги. Для него это стало настоящим открытием: политическая территория, которая дышит сопротивлением.
30 июля
Помогли Стефану Фильцнеру отвезти часть вещей в Варшаву. Он и Йоанна продали квартиру и постепенно переезжают. Их план – распределить переезд по частям, прося разных друзей и подруг помочь: не просто логистика, а способ поддерживать связи, превращать переезд в серию встреч. Именно так и действует сообщество: здесь транспортировка становится диалогом, а груз – предлогом для блеска в глазах от совместного смеха.
Тем же вечером мы вернулись в Познань, и в нашей студии прошла интернациональная встреча: пришли наши новые кенийские друзья, был Лех, Микита Ильинчик, Андрей Достлев и другие. Мы строили мосты и обсуждали планы.
Мы счастливы, что наше сообщество растёт вширь новых интернациональных связей и проектов, создавая ощутимую плотность доверия. Теории городской миграции говорят, что интеграция работает только там, где происходит горизонтальное взаимное распознавание, когда сосед не просто «толерантно» допускается, а становится частью общей истории. И судя по всему, теперь мы сможем строить эту историю здесь с голосами из многих других стран.
