Christmas
Trees
The news of the death of Nikita Melkoziorov struck unexpectedly hard. I had been periodically watching his videos over the last few years. In general, the end of the year felt strangely saturated with news about the sudden deaths of relatively young people, as if the exhaustion of the era itself had already begun literally taking away burning hearts.
December 22–25
Back again to the Christmas tree market. This year we decided to turn the ritual into a small act of care for the family: one tree stayed with us, the second was delivered to Zhora and Denis, and the third later brought to Alexey Fig 3. Everyone seemed disproportionately happy about this gesture.
On Christmas Eve, after decorating the tree Fig 10–12/15, wrapping presents, and preparing food, we went to Denis and Zhora’s place for Christmas dinner Fig 1–2/7–9/14. Everything began as a very calm and intimate family evening but gradually transformed into a chaotic YouTube party with dancing in front of the projection.
December 26–28
We briefly stopped by Lia and Andrii’s studio to see the exhibition Fig 13/16–18. The next day Paweł spent hours assembling the construction set I had given him for Christmas Fig 11/22. By evening Zhora came over to discuss his studies and new works. Later, as a final drunken gesture of the outgoing year, we decided to go once again to Dark Angels Fig 19–21. After those nights my throat (predictably) started hurting.
